1. Final Goodbye.

So here we go. Many if not most of you will not know who I am, (I've been on leave for almost a year) but to those who do I want them to know that as of this post I am handing in my tags as an ADK member. Here are my reasons, they are not meant to throw shade or sound aggressive, but ADK has generated enough respect from me that I need to give them an explanation as to why I'm leaving. This community is not the ADK I joined three and a half years ago. There was once a time where we were a mature adult gaming community, a time when you had to prove that you were a competent person who wasn't going to get hurt the first time someone teased them. That time is long gone. Values were shadowed in the mad rush from recruitment and leaders were pressured to accept new members not because of how they meshed with the community but how many posts they had. If you didn't recruit enough members to your section, obviously you weren't a good leader. We became so focused on growing our numbers and trying to please everyone that we forgot what attracted ADK's veteran members in the first place. Make no mistake, I've had a fantastic time with ADK over the past few years, I would never deny that and I don't wish for this post to take away from those years. Being able to lead Planetside 2, Minecraft, and News was a great experience. It's been a pleasure to call ADK my hope for this long. At this point I'm not leaving for anywhere, maybe just back to focusing on my life. Not going to mention anyone because one thing has never changed in ADK, news travels faster than an auto-admin ban. If you want to comment on this at all, please PM me instead of making a big deal about it in the comments. -Phire PS2 Outfit shit Public Relations Nonsense Writing and Stuff Minecraft omfg so excited Omg did I just hear a girl talk? 2. leaving ADK

Thank you for your constant service to the community, Silent. Now go start a platoon.
3. Meet Greenshaw! What is your gamer tag and how did you come up with it? My last name is actually Greenhaw. In middle school I got called to the principals office and they pronounced it Greenshaw. It really covers my gamer tag because I’m an athletic trainer, and once I went and got my event tag and it said Greenshaw. So it’s stuck. What do you think is the most interesting thing about you? I’m completely deaf in my right ear, so when I play games I cannot triangulate people at all, which is why I stay away from shooter games. I was ranked number 3 in profile rank on the GameBattles for a while and I’ve been playing LoL for six years now. I also really enjoy the book series called Wheel of Time. How would you describe the current state of the game you lead? (League of Legends) It’s very much changed since the last season, very fast paced, very early to mid-game focused. I think it’s in a healthy state for a lot of seasoned players to capitalize on. New players can get punished really hard, but now LoL has been out for a while and all the low level players are starting to get really really good. Overall it’s a good time for competition. How long have you been in ADK? I’ve been a member since the 25th of November 2014. What are your jobs? I became an LoL Admin in December of 2014, I’ve been a Recruiter, but I never really ventured far from the League section. I’m currently the League Manager. In real life, what are some of your favorite hobbies and what is your job? Reading, I really enjoy Ultimate Frisbee, fishing, and soccer (which I played throughout college). My current job is an athletic trainer. I currently cover 3 high schools sports. If they have any injuries on site I go help out, as I am also qualified as a rescuer. I just can’t transport, because I’m not an EMT. What area do you live in? Northeast Alabama. What kind of games do you play and which one is your favorite? I’m a big RPG fan, my absolute favorite game is Chrono Cross, which is a PlayStation game, which came before Final Fantasy came to PC. I also like Final Fantasy XII and League of Legends. Do you consider yourself a competitive gamer or more laid back? I’m definitely a competitive player, you can ask anyone in the League section. In League it’s one match, 5v5, and if you try to play laid back you make it 4v5. How did you first get involved in the gaming scene? Pokemon Colosseum was the very first game I played as a kid. Chrono Cross though was the first game I ever really got into. What drives you to be one of the leaders in ADK? For the longest time I played without a community on LoL, so I had a lot of actual game experience. I started looking for a community, but none of them had what I was looking for- a group of people that I could both hang out with and be competitive with. Why I really wanted to be a leader here is because I wanted to provide a good atmosphere and resources for new players. If you had to choose between a gaming community with people you got along with really well but were terrible at gaming versus people who were extremely toxic but were the top ranking in the games they played, which one would you say is more important? I generally personally can tune out negative atmospheres, but with League being so team oriented I’d have to say that I’d prefer the quality of the people. When I first joined ADK our overall rank was silver, but now we have people who are gold and platinum. If I can get along with people, then I can help make the overall team better. Meet Dynasty! What is your gamer tag and how did you come up with it? I came up with Dynasty by Googling “What’s a good alias for gaming?” What do you think is the most interesting thing about you? I’m 22, I can blow big vape clouds, and I’m pretty good at CSGO. I’m a lover, not a fighter. How long have you been in ADK? 5 years. What are your jobs? I was a BF3 Advisor/Admin, I admined BF4 when it came out, and now I manage ADK's CSGO Competition Team. In real life, what are some of your favorite hobbies? Vaping, going for walks, hanging out with my fiance, walking my dogs, just chilling. What is your job? I’m a baker. What area do you live in? British Columbia Vancouver Island What kind of games do you play and which one is your favorite? CSGO, COD Black Ops III, and GTA V. CSGO is my favorite because of the competition Do you consider yourself to be a competitive gamer or more laid back? Definitely competitive, I’ve been competing for 11 years. How did you first get involved in the gaming scene? I got involved in 2005 with Counter Strike Source. I started playing competitively in 2008. What is the milk-bag thing about? A lot of people think that in Canada milk comes in bags but it’s really only on the east coast. I just thought it’d be funny to start calling myself a milk bag. What drives you to be one of the leaders in ADK? The CSGO section was on its end, and I figured that I have valuable skills; I can manage people and I know a lot about competing, and I like helping the community. How do you think ADK is different than other Gaming Communities? It’s the people. Everyone's nice, everyone’s generous and like family, and it’s a great place to play. View full article

5. Minecraft is huge. Not only is it an open world sandbox that appeals to all ages, with actual books on it stocking library shelves and hundreds of thousands of personal and public servers, but it now is being utilized to train real time AI's. What? We all heard the news that Microsoft bought Minecraft (along with Mojang) back in 2014, but now they've formed a team of five computer scientists known as Project AIX to train an AI to learn how to adapt to a changing world. Because Minecraft is an eternally generating world, this is a lot more difficult than it sounds. Project AIX is attempting to develop an AI that can learn a new task just like a human. The difference between putting this AI into the game versus NPCs in other games is that it is not pre-programmed with the rules. It has to learn everything by itself. AIX was developed by Katja Hofmann (Platform Developer at Microsoft) and allows computer scientists to test and improve Artificial Intelligence. Some of the tasks that their AI Agent has to learn to navigate in Minecraft is regularly falling into lava and ravines and discovering how night/day and weather effects the terrain. The overall goal for the AI is to find the highest mountain possible and climb to the top. For those of you who don't play Minecraft, some of the more extreme mountains can look like this. “We’re trying to program it to learn, as opposed to programming it to accomplish specific tasks.” Fernando Diaz (Senior Researcher) This will be a huge step in how AI's are programmed and utilized in the future if Project AIX manages to develop artificial intelligence that can independently learn. This project alone may also work to reignite the public's interest in the game, which is now going on seven years since release- extremely old in the current Gamer's eyes. 9. Nostalgia is a Bitch

*Warning, Debbie Downer post. If you're having a good day, don't read this.* Today I took the time to scroll through my old Twitter feed. I found a lot of memories of a person I fondly remember, someone I wish I was, someone I want to talk to. Who is that person? Me. The problem is, I'm a member of a gaming community. We call each other family and get to know each other, but always on the basis of fun. "Don't ruin the fun," is the unsaid stipulation. We're friends, but to what extent? For an overwhelming majority of nerds, (me being a self acclaimed one, calm yourself) we make a vast majority of friends online. Research says you completely change personalities every five years or so. Ask yourself, do you like who you are? Or would you like to change? I personally could never decide, I liked that I had a strong sense of morals, but I wanted to change my social skills. I liked that I was stubborn and could aim in video games worth a darn, but I wanted to be more well known. In short, I wanted to be myself, and I wanted to be anyone else. I recently took a half year disappearance from my old online social life. As I was closing the door, I phrased it as "real life is kicking me in the butt. And then I made my getaway to fight my nemesis of six years, medial depression and paranoia. Now, gradually coming back and reading through the old things I wrote, I find myself missing my dedication and belief in the right thing no matter what. I wish I still had the pure spite to write some of the things I used to. Do you like who you are? Or would you like to change? When do we lose our childlike innocent kindness? When do we lose the desire to do good? When do we gain the ability to write inspirational quotes, and when do we decide that the opinion of that certain one individual doesn't actually matter to you? Really, truly ask yourself- Do you like who you are? Or would you like to change? -then dedicate.
10. When you write an article for the front page, try to write about news that would be relative to a gaming community, such as reviews of games, updates and new releases, technology or gamer events.        THINGS TO DO:   1. Lay your article out in a formal and concise appearance.     2. Try to include images that are relevant to the topic even if they are not specifically about what you are discussing. For example if you are making a article about a new update that's coming out for DayZ then try to include some images of DayZ the game even if no images of the update are out directly. If you can find images of the update then that's even better.   3. Always include and cite your sources. They're the proof that you didn't copy/paste an IGN or other author's work.      Article Example and Expectations: Here is a quoted demo of how the basis of a article should appear. The filler text below is Lorem Ipsum dummy text to give the appearance of how the layout should be. This is a general idea of what is expected from the appearance of things; clean paragraphs, images included and if you have points to make use of bullet points or numbers.      Quote           THINGS NOT TO DO:   Some of the things that will instantly get your work rejected from the front page would be:   Text abbreviations like "ppl" "atm" or slang such as "wuz" "pwns" and so forth. Try to be a little professional about it but still maintain your personality as well. Remember this is going to the front page of the site and will be a focal for all to see as well as a representation of the community to first time visitors. Punctuation helps and browsers have a spell check built in now. Use it. Do not plagiarize (taking someone else's work and claiming it as your own) someone's blog for your content. While you may use the info they stated try to use your own wording for it. If you are using someone else's content for a basis of your article add a source link to the bottom of your article. Plagiarism is a complete breach of writing ethics and can be legally pursued. Do not expect all your submissions to become articles if your posting about things that may be considered not worthy of front page news. Again, pick topics that are relevant to the ADK community and the things we are involved in.    Inflammatory and biggoted writing will be rejected. Strong language is discouraged but not forbidden.    Useful Ideas For Articles: Breaking news for a game we play. (big releases, mod packs, big updates, in depth review of betas) Product reviews for new hardware. (must actually own the product and include pictures of your own) Community event going on. (raffles, LAN meetings, contests) Guides and Analysis. (strategies on playing a particular map, class, ..ect) How To Get Your Article to the Front Page 1. (Preferred Method) Currently @Phire is the moderator for the front page. One of the best ways to get your article noticed and posted is by typing the article in a PM and sending it to her. Remember to include pictures and your sources, the latter of which will be required for informational posts.    2. If you post your article in your game forum section, @mention Phire in either the post or the comments.        Closing and Finalization:   Once your article is approved it will be posted to the front page. Your name will be listed as the author and all credits will go to you. An image will be made for the article news feed splash page on the home page.    If you have any questions feel free to reply to this topic with questions and concerns. If you need another example of how things should be laid out for articles then simply look how this topic you are reading now was written. It is a good base to begin with and whats to be expected.         (This post was redone from the original work of @[member='Pepsi'] )
11. BioWare originally released Star Wars Knights The Old Republic for PC in Novemeber of 2013 and has since been rated extremely highly, pulling a 9.1 out of 10 in GameSpot's user reviews. The game is an RPG of Jedi life 4000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire and focuses on the war between Darth Malak and the Old Republic. Poem Studios, an independent game company, combined with fans is doing a complete remake of the game using Unreal Engine 4 and adding new missions, items, and worlds. They call themselves Apeiron (Greek for "without an end") The best part? Because the game is still under intellectual property by Disney, Apeiron is allowed to remake the game, but not sell it. This means the game will be 100% free on release. Find out more information on Apeiron's website. Here's a few of the images they've released. 14. I never realized how ignorant I am about pretty much everything having to do with politics and history and the general knowledge of the United States as a whole. Ok maybe I did know. Just for giggles here's a map of the US I tried filling out last fall. I've come to realize that I have several major dilemmas. 1. The Primaries and Presidential Election is fast approaching and I have no idea what any of the political parties do/believe nor do I know anything about the current candidates. (I was raised in a conservative home and constantly told that Democrats are bad, Republicans are good, end of story, and never bothered to look any further.) 2. I have no idea where anything (country wise) is in on the globe besides the general overview of continents and the larger countries. I can't even get the United States East coast correct. 3. Today I learned that, contrary to whatever I heard in grade school, the American Civil War wasn't about the slaves. What. So thus having come to the realization that I am indeed a terrible American citizen and need to educate myself, I invite anyone reading along on my adventures to discover politics, opinions, history, and the world. How often do we, as a gaming community centered around having fun, shy away from getting into politics? So I invite anyone who thinks they have a point to make it, here in the comments of these blogs. I absolutely love perspective and encourage it as long as it isn't intentionally inflammatory or straight bigotry. (And in those cases I will censor your comments.) On the other hand, if you take the time to comment, please take the time to read and consider other members comments. My first question to the readers of ADK; What do you think about the current electoral system the United States has? I've heard a countless number of people tell me that "If so and so gets elected into presidency I'm leaving the country." This hasn't been just about one person either, it's pretty much all around the square, Trump, Clinton, Carson, etc. Why is it possible, if we have a representative system, to get people into presidency that a huge majority of people absolutely detest? Maybe it's just the people I hang around, but I've seen very few people who openly support Trump. Why is it then that he's such a popular candidate for the 2016 election?
15. Sorry for the resolution, turn the quality all the way up and it's more bearable.
