Twas the night before christmas.....gamer's edition (found online)

Recommended Posts

'Twas the night before Christmas, on the consoles and PC.
All good girls and boys hope for games under the tree.

The controllers were charged via USB with care,
As Frank dreams of shoryukening good old Stasis with flair.

With Ben in his Miyamoto shirt, drinking his rum
He wondered what he'd do with many a fake plastic drum.

And sweet Michael and Andrew so lively and quick,
Of the other twos' ranting they have surely grown sick.

But together in warm sweaters we look back with glee,
On an eventful year that kept long alight the family HDTV.

2008 was a long year and the disappointments hit us hard
But we lifted a glass as Thompson was finally disbarred!

Though there were blockbuster games so undoubtedly abundant,
Writing about EA, Take-Two, and DRM grew quickly redundant.

And as is the yearly tradition, Sony and Microsoft did battle:
Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 butted heads like mad cattle.

Meanwhile, PC gamers ignored them with Valve's co-op endeavor.
Left 4 Dead will have us all killing zombies together forever.

Speaking of creatures and zombies, there was EA's gamble Dead Space,
which let us so amply and satisfyingly spread limbs all over the place.

LittleBigPlanet and user-created levels surely captured our minds,

While WoW's new expansion and Warhammer served as our grinds.

Downloadable games danced in our heads—the classics updated
Although the classical difficulty made us somewhat intimidated.

Castle CrashersWipEout HDRez HD, and yes, even Braid too:
So many great downloadable games our credit cards are blue.

Straight into unquestionable danger with Dogmeat, we'd run.
As a young victim of Fallout, brandishing Vaultech's new gun.

World of Goo made us laugh while we played and we thought,
"What a shame it was that more copies weren't bought."

And for the year's hearty dose of Japanese RPGs and stories of Gaia,
We wont forget the antics of Persona 4 and the Chronicles of Valkyria.

Another adventure, a long-lost Fable, saw Albion's heroes continue to fight.
With swords, bows, and magic, in search of legends dark and light.

Let's not forget Snake's final tour of duty in Metal Gear Solid 4,
An absolutely gripping game (even if the ending is a bit of a bore.)

Even the Wii managed to "quietly" delight with Smash Bros and Karts.
Plus, No More HeroesOpoona, and Boom Blox won over our hearts.

So was the year in gaming, and we'd say it was pretty all right:
plenty of games with which gamers can fight the good fight.

But for now we'll take our leave for Christmas is near.
"Merry Christmas" to all; we'll see you next year!
