      Battlefield F.A.Q. [Please Read]   04/18/2016

After multiple questions coming up that were about the same topic we have decided to create a little F.A.Q regarding some of the most talked about topics. Please make sure you read EVERY question and answer. First thing's first, please use the search feature before you ask a question because it might have been answered already: CLICK HERE TO USE THE SEARCH FEATURE Q. I've been banned what do I do? A. Visit the "Ban Info" menu at the top of the page and click that appropriate link that relates to your ban. Then make sure you fill out the form properly after reading the guidelines to submitting a ban dispute Q. What do I do if someone is hacking? A. If you are in game you can report said individual using @report 'playername' REASON HERE If that doesn't help you, you can always submit a ban request by visiting the "Ban Info" menu at the top of the page and clicking the appropriate link Q. Can I submit a request for a new server, or a smaller special server? A. Sure but to put it bluntly most requests have been made already so rather than making a request that has already been made you should visit THIS LINK. That link talks about how we can go about getting more servers and what needs to be done to get those. Q. Well why don't you change some of the servers that you have now to those special servers? A. Because we have those servers as they are what stay full and are the easiest to keep populated. Just because 5 people like something doesn't mean that it's a smart option to keep a server that those 5 people think is a good server. Q. Why don't you change the ticket counts? A. Ok this is where you need to start realizing that the admins at ADK have been running servers for well over a combined 20 years if not more. We promise we're not going to do something that won't work and if we do happen to do that we have our admins making sure that we try to provide the best servers possible for as many people as possible. We love suggestions but when the suggestions are made that make us seem like we don't know what the heck we are doing that's when it's a little overboard. Again just because you and your buddies like something doesn't mean it's a great idea for a large gaming community as the server won't stay populated and pay for itself. We do want to start bringing more of those to the community, but please refer to the answer of the 3rd questions where a link was posted regarding different servers and how to make it happen. But to answer this question some, on certain servers like our BF3 TDM, it is meant to be a quick round server where you have a match that ends quickly. Some people don't want to play a round that goes on for 30 minutes, and a lot of people have enjoyed it. And again our admins do look at servers and how they are doing, but don't forget just because a few people want something doesn't mean everyone wants it. Q. How come I can't use explosives in a no explosives server but everybody else can? A. In actuality those individuals aren't supposed to either, but they are choosing to break the rules We are humans and unfortunately we aren't perfect to catch everyone. But our admins do the best that they can to be perfect and we have our auto admin in place for no explosives, but it comes down to rules are rules. If you choose to break them and you get in trouble, that is your fault and there is nobody else to blame. You can make reports and if admins aren't in the server they will go over them to see those who break the rules often and will deal with them. Just because an admin isn't in the server doesn't mean that we aren't looking at the reports. Q. Why don't you have servers that have multiple expansion maps on them? A. Because they are quite difficult to maintain unless you have people willing to be in the servers and make sure they are populated day in and day out. Please refer again to the link in the answer of the third question as this relates to that. If we have people who are going to make sure that these servers will indeed stay populated then possibly but so far we haven't been able to get that. In the past we've done B2K which a lot of people were begging for an it went nowhere. Q. There's someone cursing and using racist remarks in the server, why haven't they been banned? A. Because the reality of it is nobody will ever be happy, these are not remarks that you will see any admin using but we aren't going to police everybody and what they say. What one person might find offensive, the other person might not. So if we remove a few words then we'll need to remove all words that people find offensive. Now if the individual is spamming constantly and/or just being a troll about it you can always submit a ban request and let us know what was happening. Admins will then look over it to see what action needs to be taken. Q. Why don't you kick people who have a high ping? A. In reality high ping doesn't cause as many problems as a lot of people think. Admins have been talked to about how to handle something that is absurd but they will not kick someone with a 150 ping because people are complaining about them. We have members from all over the world and we're not going to limit what servers they play on. Someone's high ping to a server does not cause a server to lag. If the server is lagging it'll be everyone noticing it. BUT if there are only a few individuals who are complaining about lag, it's more than likely an issue with their connection to the server. The best thing to do would be do a tracert to the server, but most people don't want to believe that they might have an issue on their end or somewhere between their house and the server. And the reality is that there could be an issue that someone is seeing. There are plenty of posts about ping in the servers so feel free to do a search to look them up. Q. Why don't you just disable weapons that you can't use in the no explosive server? A. Don't you think we would have done that if it was possible? :) Q. Why can't I dispute a ban after 2 months? A. If people cared so much to play on our servers after a perma ban, they would come and dispute within the first 2 months. We feel 2 months is more than enough time to dispute a perma ban. Q. Why don't you have anything besides 64 slot servers? A. Again refer to the link in the answer to question number three. But long story short, it's not easy to keep small number servers populated as often as possible when we have as many servers as we do. Due to the fact that you could lose 15 people at a time in one game, there goes half the population of the server which could indeed empty the server. So if it's wanted we need people willing to put in the time and effort to do such and to make it so that there is always a queue for the servers. Q. Why does it seem like you guys get frustrated when people ask certain questions? A. Seriously though, it's because they are normally questions that have been answered multiple times and most of the time it appears that the question wasn't thought about in the manner of "Hey I wonder if anybody else has posted about this." Unlike Battlelog where things normally get hidden and admins don't respond, we do see pretty much 99% of everything that is posted without it getting lost because of the fact that we have admins for each particular section of the community. And those admins do make sure that we respond to topics where someone might have a question. So with that last question being answerd, please just take 10 seconds to browse the forums and search to see if your topic has been discussed before you go and make a post. If it's not too old or hasn't been answered feel free to leave your input but a lot of the same questions are coming up over and over. Ping, ping, ping, why can't I use explosives, ping, ping, can we have more servers, why can't we have these maps, why do you only have like 200 tickets on the TDM server, 64 players is a lot of people to have on a server, where are the expansion maps, why is this person using curse words and racist remarks and hasn't been banned yet. As always we do appreciate and ask for suggestions but most of the questions that we see over and over have been answered and could be answered for you by making a search on the forums. Thank you for your support of the community and as always we will continue to provide the best possible gaming experience on our servers for as many people in the world.

A Suggestion for the Metro server

Recommended Posts

I have a suggestion for the metro server. That is to disable players from switching team. Espucialy once there is a rape cap. If you had this disabled at one time its somehow been allowed as of late.  You have several players like emulatin, XBigode_GrossoX, Segura_a_Jaca if you look at there stats they are good. When they are on the loosing side they switch teams. This causes the server to depopulate. I mean if the one team is good enough to base rape people already start to leave. That's just normal, but think about if its a base rape and those player switch to the wining side.  It sort of magnifies with people leaving. In addition I was on the other night and some admin was trying his/her best to try and keep things even. That admin switched XBigode_GrossoX and that player instead helping out just stayed in the back and never engaged the match.

I 100% disagree. The balancer in Metro is in my opinion (I play there a lot) great. You will always have those good players, and by punishing them for being good by switching them over to the losing side what msg are we sending out to our customers? Base rapes happen. It`s metro! Base rapes are suppose to happen. Been happening since the BF3 version. try !surrender or !votenext

BTW this has been discussed a million times, beating a dead rotten horse here. sorry.

Your not understanding. I know base rape happens. But what I am saying is what kind of message are you putting out there when a good player winds up on the losing team. And then once the base rape happens they move to the winning team. All I am saying is once a base rape happens you should not be allowed to join the winning team. If you are on the loosing side then so be it.

I was in team speak in that sever yesterday I beleive and they said that the auto switch only work on the people who are dead.  Like if a US has more than RU then the first to die on US get auto switched.  I do agree that there needs to be a better balance thought because to many of the best players are put on the same team leaving the other team at a huge disadvantage and thats infuriating because your always gona lose and you K:D will be horrible.

What he is saying is that once the tide turns and these players realize that there is a baserape imminent and their team will be raped and lose, they voluntarily switch teams in game to join the winning team before the ticket count prohibits anyone from moving to the winning team.....

I don't know if anything can be done with this, but in-game admin can fmove them back from whence they came....Chickenshits deserve it, too......

Cheers!

We understand that is an issue Knights. Right now there is not a blocking script for those type of switches, we will work on it.

White, it is not just first to die, it's players on a list that are first to die, otherwise it waits.

Beach, now there is an issue where it will move dispersal players to the winning team, and it looks like the developer of the balancer will not code in a block for that, so i'll have to do it myself.

Yes!!! I've noticed lots of people switching to the winning team MOST of the time in Metro. It's the main reason I usually hate Metro and refuse to play it/ rage quit on it. @AdKats Developer if you or another ADK administrator is able to fix this or do something about it I would love to know so that I can enjoy playing again. There have only been 3-4 times I have played when one side wasn't getting base raped and I loved it, but the other times I hated it no matter which team I was on- it just wasn't any fun.

Just to let you all know where this came from. First off I will only say player 1 player 2 and player 3 cause I don't want to name and shame. However I was actually in a squad with player 1, player 2, and player 3. Yes were at the start of a base rape. We actually just lost BASE A. I then got a notice that I was the squad leader and I hit my tab button to see the rest of my squad moved themselves to the other team. All I will say about Player 1, Player 2 and Player 3 if I did give you their names you would see that they are good enough to have been accused many times and I say many times of being a hackers. Now I am not saying they are hacker and I will give them the benfit of doubt. However all three players constantly score in the 60, 70 and I have even seen a couple times in the 90's. That said what the F do you think happens to the server if those quality players get moved to a side that is already good enough to rape the other side. What you have is either players just leave the server and or just stay in pre spawn to  hold their spot. It left just me and about 5 other players, plus new players that entered game and left just to even try to go against that team. There was not even enough of my team left to surrender. It was like ok well just run out like a fools out in the open, let you kill us so you guys can get enough kills to end the map.

One of the reasons I dont join clans any more or want admin rights for it would have been way to tempting for me to kick or issue a temp ban to those three players.

Their behavior is detrimental to the server, circumventing team balance is no different than circumventing auto admin with C4.....imo....wasn't allowed in BF3 either....

Cheers!

I have noticed that this does happen too. It's really annoying when an already losing team then loses potentially game changing players and loses even worse. It's quite agitating. I don't know if the server already has it, but maybe there should be a no switching to a higher ticket team even if there are less players on said team.

Fixed on metro, players cannot switch to the winning team manually.

We've completely revamped the balancer on 7 over the past week. This has caused more close games on that server in the past 3-4 days than have been in the past 2 weeks. Baserape is not completely avoidable, some things still escape the system's eye, even with this new method some instances still fall through the cracks, it can't predict everything. However, this has been a long time coming, I'm glad to see we finally found the best way to balance metro.

We took a very old system, originally meant to split apart problem groups of players, and extended it to everyone who met a set of criteria. I.E. the dispersion list. There are now 820 players on the dispersion list for metro. We are no-longer targeting specific groups of players who affect the server, they are being added automatically by a server side script.

That said, there has been an increase in the amount of players team swapped during rounds, but there is a simple trick to avoid being balanced yourself. Firstly, understand a few things, minus a few of the gory details. If you want the details, i'll be happy to provide them.

  • Lots of players quit at the very end of rounds, during the loading screen, this causes an imbalance (strong player wise, not player count) that needs to be fixed at the start of next game, so the balancer is looking for people to balance.
  • The balancer does not act every few seconds, or minutes, it acts when players die. It checks the status of the server and determines if it needs to make a change for the person who just died.
  • No players are moved after either team has less than 400 tickets remaining, it is unfair to move players between teams once that window is hit, as it is impossible to recover a win after that. However, any other time is fair game.
  • You cannot switch to the winning team from the losing team manually, this is to prevent imbalance. If you attempt to, you will be immediately unswitched. The only players able to bypass this are those with paid teamswap access, or autobalance whitelisting.
  • There is no "I got a 7 kill streak and was balanced, it saw my skill and moved me" business. Honestly, we get more messages like that than you'd think. It's if the enemy team needs help badly, and you are the first decent player to die after it realizes that, nothing more.
  • It is able to predict things far better than I am able to now, which was not the case before. Admins should only need to take action in extreme cases now. Or even better just use !surrender, it will automatically end the round and scramble teams for a fresh start. I performed manual balance once since this update as i thought a team was going to be baseraped, and that team ended up baseraping the other...I haven't touched balance manually since.

Knowing that, the best way to avoid being balanced is simply to not die very early in the round, as you will be chosen first for a swap if the other team needs a buff. It's searching for available people during that time, so don't let it chose you. That's really it, don't be available for it to choose, play cautious during the first minutes, it will find another who didn't.

This is the best way we've found to keep matches fair, and I've been watching very closely to make sure this is working exactly the way we intend it to. No balancer is perfect, there are still bad rounds, but they are now far fewer and farther between.

Enjoy.

The changes continue.

Server reputation has been added to metro. This is basically a tracking system for helpful players and harmful players, like the original infraction tracking system but with a little more depth. Infraction points take part in the calculation for reputation, as do the reports players issue, and those acted on by admins. However, old infraction points do not weigh as heavily on reputation as new infractions do; the same applies to forgive points.

On joining the server you are now told your reputation, and the number of infraction points you have on the server.

Players with high reputation (currently > 50, but that may change) are given two automatic perks:

  1. An automatic contest for reports against them. Admins cannot directly punish off of reports on high reputation players, they must investigate, as these players have proven their usefulness and loyalty on the server.
  2. Punish action leniency. When a punish is issued on a high reputation player, their infraction points are still increased, and their reputation decreased, but the action is simply a verbal warning across their screen instead of possible kick/ban.

Many players have asked about their previous infractions because of this and want to get their reputation positive again, which has lead to many forgives on 1 or 2 point players whose last infractions were months ago. Even a couple random players with very negative reputation decided to spectate the server for 8 hours straight reporting people for me just to help their rep. So far the system is working great to keep players involved and weed out the bad apples in the process too.

Thank you for your hard work on the metro balance issues. And thanks to everyone who has come here giving us feedback.

While it may seem like we aren't listening, we are, but these issues are complicated and we were left building plugins and devices that should have been done better by DICE.

We hope to get this balance spread across other servers that need it.
