How did you get your Name and Avatar?

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is our Star Citizen icebreaker and introduction thread.  (Yes. there is an official one you do for ADK membership, but this one is ours, and a good way to get in more posts and learn something about each other).

1)

Please tell us how you got your user name(s), whether the one you are using here or in game, or preferably both!   |B)

2)

Please tell us how and/or why you chose your avatar picture.  If you chose a different one for the RSI site, tell us about the RSI one as well if you like!

3)

Feel free to use this as a place to enter other information about you, your interests or bio as well if you like.  We have some fairly unusual people, and like any other party, we are all richer if you share the wealth!  ~Dimwit / CaptainObvious

So to provide an example and start off, I will lift mine almost entirely from another place I had already done this, and add in a little section about my RSI in game name.

Name:

I first started playing FPS online games - back in the days of CoD 3, when my oldest son started playing it - I was terribly bad at it.  I don't mean I was bad because my rigs weren't up to it, or because I was older and my reaction times were terrible.  I just really _sucked_ because I would do simply stupid things that gamers wouldn't do in an FPS, because I was a complete and total noob not to just that game but to ANY FPS.  When I joined the group that I was a member of for all that time until my recent joining here, I could only describe myself to them as 'the dimwit' who would do this, that, or the other thing in whatever FPS we were playing.  I naturally chose it as easily remembered, made sense in my case, and if I actually ever DID manage to take down an icon in a match, I liked the thought his screen would read 'You have been killed by Dimwit' (ppppttthhhhhh)...

In StarCitizen, my username is CaptainObvious, since I may ask or suggest such things that those addicted since kickstarter will already know,  and as a parent of three sons who all play, I probably have a penchant for stating the obvious anyway...  Better to say it before THEY can, I say...

My avatar:

I have kids, so of course, like anyone with kids, I see all the tv shows they watch (like it or don't!).  I like Cosmo from Fairly Oddparents because he is the sort of optimistic, completely out of touch, idiot-child-adult who HAS intelligence (unlike Homer SImpson who may be lacking in that last department).

UNLIKE Homer, however, Cosmo simply elects to either out-think himself (badly) or simply not USE his intelligence, leading to endless self-recriminations and occassional flashes of actually REMEMBERING what proper priorities are... (ain't THAT too close to home! lol)

There is also, particularly in this shot, his completely vapid and possibly vacuous smile.  It makes me laugh just looking at him, and of course, it IS completely open, hopeful and unguarded- he WANTS to be happy, others to be happy, and everything to be ffine - and in this hope, or through his idiot-concept of the world, he is unafraid.  Maybe unwisely, imprudently, surely its dimwitted, no?  But - to be happy and unafraid,,,!

He has - to my mind - the perfect gaping, vapid smile to match the name 'Dimwit' AND CaptainObvious, but I like him for many more reasons than that, which I thought is pretty strange for a 54 year old guy.  Heh!

My first pc game happened to be Combat Arms and i wanted something that would sound awesome in FPS. So the name "Punisher" came to mind, i would change it at times to either Punisha, PunishaKelv or PunisherKelv (kelv being an abbreviation for my name). I enjoyed playing FPS, combat arms in particular, but than the era of hackers dawned on the game and i just got pissed off at the response form developers. They rather update the game and put new stuff in while it was being ruined by hackers. After FPS i jumped into the MMO genre and decided that i would continue to use "Punisher" or a variation of it. So if you ever play a game and see Punisha or PunisherKelv, 85% of the time that will be me.

As for my avatar picture it is the symbol the marvel anti-hero "The Punisher" uses. I wanted to go with something that would show a shooter, but decided that going for a more signifying avatar would be best.

I am currently a college student, who enjoys to party, work out and play pc games. I am a former Computer science major who has switched to information science since i was not interested in all the programming needed in computer science. I enjoy playing sports, basketball, baseball, football and have recently started playing rugby.

I never though of joining a gaming community and was not interested until i started playing PS2. Joined ADK through PlanetSide2 and it was a great decision on my part. Always fun playing planetside2 with ADK since most of the officers don't take things too seriously (most...not all), but when it comes to alerts we buckle down and get shat done!

With star citizen i wanted to help ADK in what ever way i could and decided that i should try to become an officer. At the time i did not know much about star citizen but now i know too much to patiently wait any longer. I know we will become a force in the Persistent universe that will be star citizen.

Finally, when the semester is underway i will not be gaming since i like to concentrate on school and what not. Once the semester is over you can find me on team speak on the days that i do not have to work.

My name is actually an evolution over time.  My last name is Shea, like the stadium, pronounced like Shay.  Surprising how often its pronounced She or She -ah.

But I digress.  So Shea became Sheady, even more confusing for people, so I then opted for the more traditional spelling Shady, and eventually people just added the phrase "at best" to the end when they referred to myself.  But way back then, there were many character limitations to system usernames and email addresses <10>, so I opted to drop the "e" in best.

As for my avatar..Pip boy, I mean come on.  like any explanation is even necessary. But for those not in the know, he's a shout-out to the Fallout game series. He's hard to explain, basically like a mascot.  PIP-boy is your personal computer in the games worn on your fore-arm usually, similar to the system Chris Roberts has stated will be available to players in the game.  A knowledge base of sorts so you don't need to run of and find a free terminal somewhere.

As for my SC in-game name, Jubal Early is another shout-out, but this time to the series and movie Firefly/Serenity.  Jubal was only in the series, a bounty hunter chasing after the ever so elusive River Tam.  Though things didn't end well for dear old Jubal, he was quite skilled, and I kinda feel this game has a lot in common with the Firefly lore, minus the Cantonese swearing, but we can add that as we go along  :D .

Now go rest your eyes, they need it.

@[member='Shadyatbst'], on the Cantonese, we need another visit by Desmond (our sometime hanger-on in the StarCitizen TS channel).  He lives in HK, and is our resident specialist in Cantonese...  Sao Seng!  Heh!

1. RblDiver ("Rebel Diver" or more commonly just "Diver". That's a lower-case L, not an upper-case i! lol). Have been using that name for, oh, 15 years or so now.

2. Some time a few years back, I found this pic of some monkeys in the "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" pose, put it on some profile, and it's spread to my other profiles. Good thing I like it (or am at least too bored to find something else).

3. Well, I'm an adviser in our BF4 section. Also plan on playing Wildstar. Theoretically I'm making a website for WS as well, but I am _really_ lazy about working on it. Given that I only have a month left (and honestly it should've been done by now!), I better get on it!

My Name Ovist is the first name of a formal full name given to me by a random generator in Star Wars Galaxies, the full name was Ovist Lightingmoon. It was my first long term MMO and the name stuck.

My profile pic is me in real life as scary as that is.

I don't share my wealth unless she is REAL HOT, otherwise it is MINE ALL MINE

1. From the Darkspawn, the enemies from the Dragon Age games. I first changed it into LightSpawn, used that for a while, then changed it into LyteSpawn, and now I'm using it everywhere. Sometimes, I'm going by Lyte, or LightSpawn when LyteSpawn is not available. Using the same one on the RSI site.

2. From my picture library. It's actually one of my old desktop backgrounds. I just like how it looks, I guess. I actually wanted to use dickbutt, but an RSI staff member told me I should probably change it, so I did. Ah, such is life.

3. Well, I like video games, obviously. And movies, I guess. I like those. Basically, anything your 19 year old "weird" kid would like, I guess.

1.  I honestly couldnt tell you Valashar has been my in game name for going on 15-16yrs from everything ranging from EQ and D&D all the way to any other games other than RPGs lol.

2. My avatar pic is of Takeda Shingen who was one of the most brilliant Daimyos of the Warring State Period of Japan his motto was

"Fast like the wind, Silent like a forest, Intrusive like the fire, Immobile like a mountain, Under heaven and earth, I alone am feared."

The first portion with the black background is a ref to the Art of War, and the second is what he would say when ref himself.

3. not much else to say really i am a pretty open book like to game, read, write, and whatever else tickles my fancy.

@[member='Valashar'] You accidentaly double-posted there, you might wanna delete one of them :P

Also, if you like Takeda, samurai, and all that you might wanna try Samurai Warriors, if you haven't already. Also, if you have, and you like the "Warriors" series of games, Dynasty Warriors 8 just came out for PC. Again, you might wanna try that, if you haven't already.

And sorry for the off-topic post. Just wanted to throw that out there.

1. Don't remember why I chose Nighthawk to begin with, I was like 12 at the time and it probably sounded cool! Ran it all through the Halo series growing up. I have tried different names to try to be unique but none quite have the ring like Nighthawk. Sadly there are a lot of Nighthawk's so I usually roll Nighthawk2004.

2. Go Hawks!!!!!!!

3. I'm 28, I play a lot of FPS but something about MMO's always get me hooked. Really I play just about anything. Super hero movies rock!

My name comes from a variant of my name and my handle, I.e my adk handle, comes from my old nick name and the handle I have used since BF Modern Combat and Vietnam.

My avatar is fitting and matches my ability to assist being as it Ireland's medical corps logo.

Ask me anything. In here and I'm open.

I've always played a Dark Paladin, Shadow Priest type character since the 90's.  Chaotic-Good type style.   So VileFaith.

My Avatar was something I made up to look like a VF "rune"

Hi!

My name, BattleChaser, is pulled from a comic in the midlate 90s that I adored. It was sorta high fantasy with technomagical elements so it has little to do with Star Citizen itself, but it's a play on my given name, Chase, so it's fun that way. It also happens to be a work  in irony, as I am a pacifist myself so the only battle-chasing I'll be doing is likely to be running onto the field to assist the wounded after a grisly battle.

My avatar is an image of a cyborg female that I particularly like. I'm a huge fan of most sci-fi, but in particular I like Cyberpunk (Harrison, sometimes, Gibson, Stephenson, Sterling, Rucker)

Not that many people know the true origin of my name...  About a handful of people exist who actually know the whole story. I don't feel like telling it right now but maybe someday I'll edit this post and tell my story.

How and why I chose my avatar picture? Dunno really. I like mustangs, I needed a picture, It stuck with me to this day.

I absolutely love space, the stars, space games, the science of the stars, all things interstellar. The universe fascinates me and I intend to use Star Citizen as the means to satisfy my desire for interstellar exploration and discovery!
