TS3 Downtime Notice (Planned)

Recommended Posts

On Sunday 6th April 2014 we have planned maintenance on the Teamspeak 3 server.

The server will be offline from 8pm BST / 3pm EDT / 12pm PDT for about one hour.

This is to allow for the transfer of the Teamspeak 3 server to a new host with DDoS protection.

During this time we will also be making some changes to the Teamspeak 3 backend setup.

(Note: if we hit any issues the 1 hour window may be extended, we will post here once the move is complete)

After the server is back online you may need to clear/refresh your DNS cache to connect again, and if you are using the IP address we advise you to start using ts.adkgamers.com instead.

It might just take a few minutes for your DNS to be updated properly even after flushing it.   Just give it a few minutes and it should be back up.   Sometimes it can take longer though.

If anyone is having connection issues, please do the following:

  1. In Teamspeak Client hit Ctrl+L or go to Tools, then Client Log
  2. Copy the lines relating to the last connection attempt and post them in a reply, they will look something like this:
06/04/2014 21:31	ClientUI	Info	Connect to server: ts.adkgamers.com
06/04/2014 21:31	ClientUI	Info	Trying to resolve ts.adkgamers.com
06/04/2014 21:31	TSDNS	Info	No SRV TSDNS found at "_tsdns._tcp.adkgamers.com"
06/04/2014 21:31	TSDNS	Info	DNS resolve successful, "ts.adkgamers.com"=72.52.228.253
06/04/2014 21:31	TSDNS	Info	SRV DNS resolve successful, "_ts3._udp.ts.adkgamers.com"=>"ts.adkgamers.com:3796" = 72.52.228.253:3796
06/04/2014 21:31	ClientUI	Info	Lookup finished: 72.52.228.253 3796 ts.adkgamers.com 0 0
06/04/2014 21:31	ClientUI	Info	Resolve successful: 72.52.228.253:3796
06/04/2014 21:31	ClientUI	Info	Blacklist check ok
06/04/2014 21:31	ClientUI	Info	Initiating connection: 72.52.228.253:3796 ts.adkgamers.com
06/04/2014 21:31	ClientUI	Info	Connect status: Connecting
06/04/2014 21:31	ClientUI	Info	Connect status: Disconnected
06/04/2014 21:31	ClientUI	Info	Failed to connect to server, want autoreconnect = 0

In that example the DNS is stale and still using the old IP address, the remedy is to refresh your local DNS cache. If that does not work and you still get the old IP, then it is a case of waiting a bit longer for your ISP's DNS servers to refresh.

Note: For those of you using the IP address, please use the DNS name going forward. For simplicity you can connect to ts.adkgamers.com (without a port) and it will automatically get the IP and port needed to connect.

Your ISP's DNS servers haven't updated with the new IP, 198.100.154.108. So who's DNS servers are you using? Your ISP's or an alternate? I recommend Google's public DNS or Open DNS as they will update quicker because there is far more lookups going through them than your typical ISP's.

Did you refresh your machine and router (some routers will cache DNS too), if so then its your ISP side.

The records were changed as soon as the server went down, so realistically most ISP's should have refreshed by now, however the time before refresh will vary by ISP and could be a number of hours.

If you dont set any up on your machine, it will use your router, and that in turn will use what ever it is set to (usually your ISP).

Eventually it will work for everyone, it's just a waiting game for DNS caches to refresh.

Personally my router is setup to use OpenDNS and they have not failed me yet, they also have a public cache check function if there are any cache issues.

@[member='FatalHit'], @[member='Y3K-Daniel'] is right. If you don't have anything in there then it  it will use your router, and that in turn will use whatever it is set to (usually your ISP).

would it be possible to add the opendns to the list with the google one that way it utilizes both of them or will it only utilize one at a time?

You could use them both, however your computer will only use the first one and then when the second one becomes unavailable it fails over to the second one.
