Yes on some of those images I do have my full name on there.   I have and will be writing for an online entertainment website and that's why my full name is needed.    Most know it by now, and most of you who have donated see my name there as well.    This does not mean that you can call me by my name unless otherwise noted by myself.     There are people that I allow and are fine with calling me by my name from time to time within the community.   Nothing against all of you, that's just how it works around here.     It's that way in person as well, so don't think it just happens online.

You're probably wondering how do you become one of those special people to be able to call me by my actual name from time to time?   Well the quickest way is to meet up with me in person.    Hang out, have a few drinks and get some grub and just chat. .      OR buy me this lens - http://www.amazon.com/Canon-70-200mm-2-8L-Telephoto-Cameras/dp/B0033PRWSW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376309401&sr=8-1&keywords=canon+70+200+2.8+is+ii

What is your current setup?  My Uncle does a lot of sports, live events, and wedding shoots.  I am slowly getting into photography also even though my current camera isn't great.

My setup changes often as I do normally rent my gear as it's freaking expensive to own and I don't have that cash right now to drop.   (again someone can purchase that lens for me if you'd like)

But what I've used in those pictures that I have posted:

Canon T3i

Canon T4i

Canon 7D

Canon 70-200mm f2.8

Canon 10-22mm f3.5-4.5

Canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6

Canon 24-105mm f4

Canon 70-300mm f4-5.6

Canon 400mm f2.8

Some of my own gear is mentioned in that list above.      If only I could own all of that.  haha

Getting a truely amazing setup is extremely expensive.  I think my Uncle has north of $10k in equipment easily.  He started shooting around 10 years ago as a hobby and 5 years ago he opened his own studio/business.  Since then he now does most local activities and is booked almost every weekend for some event or another.

The great thing about photography is that you really DONT need an expensive setup to do great work, you have to use your eye and your mind to figure out the best way to execute. The only difference between a $100 camera setup and a $15,000 camera setup is the pieces of glass and silicon in between you and the subject. Nail the lighting, composition, and the edit, and the rest doesnt matter as much anymore :)

Correct, sometimes you can take great photos with a certain camera that was only $100, BUT you don't always have the control/settings that you get from the higher end.    I wouldn't consider my T3i a high level camera but I can still keep up with the best of the best.    Sometimes I wonder why people who are shooting for the newspaper and well known places like that have those jobs based on the work that they put out.    They normally have the best of the best in terms of bodies/lenses and still put out work that I'd consider just point and shoot cameras to take.

I'd love to go on tour with an artist/band and be their official photographer.

I shoot run and gun documentary footage with a T3i, it does just fine ;) I get what you're saying though. Some of my most published work was of Korn, Filter, Evanesence, Flyleaf, using a Nikon D70 and some slow glass. Printed in magazines just fine, some are still on Fender's website somewhere.

I've done the band/tour thing in the prime time about 10 years ago when labels gave bands money to pay photographers and the like. Instagram, Facebook, microblogging, ect. ruined that when everyone started giving their photos away for the bands to use. So much fun it's almost like being a member of the band sometimes

BTW the shots in my above post were done with a 7D, shares the same sensor the T3i has.

Yeah some of my best work has come from my T3i, and actually some point and shoots as well.   Well ones that have some settings that you can change.  haha     But there's only so much that a point and shoot can do in a certain amount of time.    I've found even when using other cameras that since I'm just used to my T3i I end up getting better shots from it even if the camera is the lesser of the 2 that I have.     Just because I'm used to my T3i and I can change the settings in no time at all without having to look at the body to find out where a button is, etc. .

I love being able to have multiple camera setups as most people don't realize but 3 songs is normally all you get to shoot when you get media credentials for shows.    And while changing lenses can be pretty quick, it can still take valuable time.

Yeah. .  you just gotta find bands that will still pay, because most of the time the pictures that they are looking to get, the quality just isn't there with stupid Facebook, etc. .    But it does suck that being considered a "professional" you're limited to what you can do with a media pass.     The 3 song limit, can only shoot from 1 part of the venue, etc. .   I understand they are trying to "protect" the artists, but at the same time in the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram generation all that goes out the window for "some" people but not those who are using their point and shoots and phones  (which as you stated can create some of the same pictures sometimes).     And you'd think that with people who you have their information for, and you know where they are going to post those images that you'd want them to take as many as possible for you.      That's not the case for some artists unfortunately.    There are others that are great about it though.      You're stuck between a rock and a hard place normally though = /

@[member='Konvict1982'] Thank you sir! I do mainly filmwork but I still try and keep up with my photography here and there.

What kind of setup do you use for your photography?  I have a glorified point and shoot Fujifilm S-4200.  It does have some manual controls I tinker with and a descent zoom but I really hope to pick up a Cannon DSLR when I can finally upgrade.

edit:  saw you already posted your info in a post further up.  Nice setup

It varies. I've cannibalized a lot of my photography stuff into stuff I can use more for video. Depending on the shoot I'll usually rent whatever video gear I need based on the shoot, but for personal and low budget things I run with 2 DSLRS, a Canon 7D, and a T3i, both running Magic Lantern (works better on the T3i so I use that more for video).

Some gear porn

Haha thanks! You should see some of the toys we rent. There's nothing harder than playing with a $70,000 camera and then having to drop ship it back 2 days later and going back to your piddly $500 "toy" lol

I really like the lighting in the Mutemath photo and for the shot of Jonathan Davis the stage and lower body looks awesome just too bad it caught blur from the movement.  Oh and not knocking on your shots at all they are all amzing I just hate when I catch a blurry shot ... any tips on high speed shots?

Yeah that was when I was shooting a D70, that particular shot was done with a Sigma 15-30 3.5-4.5, I had to ride around 1/15th or so at 1600. There's a lot more useable shots I got, but I just like that one for some reason.

One more from Korn

That is an awesome shot of Munky.  I was a huge fan of Korn in their early years before David Silveria and Head split (even though Head is back with the band).  I still like some of their newer stuff but I think the dubstep music really takes away from the lyrics in their newer songs.

The shots aren't bad but I think what you need to work on is the angle of the shot.  I think the first image would have been better if you had captured the one alone or included all of the second one also the all black background really messes with it.  For the 2nd shot of the city at night centering the main building a little better and getting a lower vantage point (if there was one) would have really made it pop out.  For the 3rd and final shot moving farther to the left or right and higher would have helped a lot.

As someone else pointed out having the right camera is only a small part of an amazing shot.  Finding the right angle and seeing the shot in your mind's eye is where it really comes from.

My pictures aren't great, my camera isn't great, but I try to make up for it by finding shots that just click with me.  Keep working at it and I am sure you will find an awesome shot that you love.

That is so true. It about the composition of the picture not the equipment. Although what got me on many shots especaialy the one of the city is taht I did not have a tripod on hand. Otherwise I do ok, and you are right the more pictures you take the more you learn.

Most of my pictures are while holding the camera but sometimes I use a rail, post, limb, etc. to steady myself and when nothing is at hand shoot like shooting a rifle in real life using proper breathing techniques to steady yourself for the shot.  Once I upgrade to a better camera I will probably end up with a tripod though.

So I got a hold of this lens:  http://www.amazon.com/Canon-EF-70-200mm-2-8L-USM/dp/B00006I53W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1377515189&sr=8-2&keywords=70-200mm+f2.8

It's not the is II BUT it did me well when I borrowed it from the person I just bought it from and got it for a killer deal.   And I can pay with payments which they aren't even asking for much for each payment.

Some of the images that I have posted were taken with this lens. . can't wait to finally use it!   Not having this lens was pretty much the only thing holding me back from shooting more shows.
