Own3d.tv closes their doors for good

Recommended Posts

So many of you may or may not know that Own3d.TV is no longer up and running.     There wasn't a discussion on ADK so I thought it'd be a good idea to add it.

Below is what is stated on their website:

Dear own3D business partners,

own3D and its management, having evaluated the future of own3D, have decided to cease operations on January 31st, 2013. After efforts to sell the company fell through and after much deliberation this seems to be the best course of action.

As the first livestreaming portal for gamers own3D had a turbulent start with unexpected growth. We have tried to drive the company into profitability but due to the capital intensive nature of our industry and increasing competition, we have not been able to reach sustainability despite our best efforts.

This is a difficult decision for all of us at own3D given the impact it will have on partners who have helped build this business.

Over the next 2-3 weeks own3D will be assigned an official liquidator by local authorities who will then reach out to all partners directly. In the meantime please send all your inquiries and requests to office@own3D.tv

Your own3D Team

So you might not be able to understand what exactly went on, but they did file for bankruptcy.   And they were quite far behind on payments they offered to their streamers.     You might wonder why something as popular as Own3d had to file for bankruptcy but it quite simple.   They had something that was growing constantly and they weren't certain how to control it.   They promised a lot to their streamers but they didn't even know how they were going to get that money before they made those promises.

Own3d tried to sell the company to a few other companies with no such luck so they decided the best route was to shut down and file for bankruptcy.

This is quite sad to see things like this happen in the gaming world.   But people like Twitch will definitely enjoy it!    Hopefully we will be able to see more streaming services in the future though, as the more options out there for everyone. . the better.
