Overwatch Fun at ADK for April 2020

About the Clips

Another fun month of Overwatch! I switched back to tank for the most part after a couple of months trying to learn support. I could always get silver healing but gold was rare. @CardinalFunky had plenty of Dead eyes with Mccree, Driftless showed us how to play some solid Brig and he tanked with Orisa as well. My favorite clip is at the end when Funky gets rezzed and then gets a triple kill. Fun stuff!

In the World of Overwatch

There have been a lot of changes going on with the Overwatch League as the Covid-19 Pandemic is going strong in the U.S. The line between the Atlantic and Pacific Conference has been blurred because since they moved from the physical “homestand” LAN format to the online matches, which results in the fact that teams must play in either Asia region or North America region due to ping issues. Multiple Western teams with a strong core of Korean players, including New York Excelsior, London Spitfire, and Vancouver Titans have moved to South Korea because the teams felt safer there; however, Vancouver Titans announced a return to North America due to some logistics and management issues. Thus, currently, the 7 teams: Charge, Dragons, Dynasty, Excelsior, Hunters, Spark, and Spitfire, while the remaining 13 teams belong to the North America region. They will have a tournament among the two regions in May.

There were a lot of changes to hero pools in April. They changed from having separate hero pools between the game and the competition to the same hero pools for all players using the hero usages of the Masters/Grandmasters, and on the latest, they plan to keep hero pools only for Masters/Grandmasters and League/ Contenders players based on the League hero usages. Blizzard has been listening to the feedbacks of the community and tries their best to make sure the majority of players feel happy. Map pools were also removed from the game, all maps are available to play except Paris and Horizon Lunar Colony.

On the performances of the teams, it is really hard to tell exactly where every team is because of the two regions; however, there are some clear best and worst teams in the League as of right now. On the winning side, the Philadelphia Fusion in North America and Shanghai Dragons in Asia are consistently dominating their competition. Meanwhile, the Boston Uprising is clearly at the bottom of the standings. They now only have 6 active players due to Walid “Mouffin” Bassal was kicked out following allegations of sexual misconduct, Min-seob “Axxiom” Park took leave of absence for a medical procedure, and Gabriel “Swimmer” Levy and Sangbeom “Munchkin” Byun left the team recently. The minimum requirement of 8 players in the Overwatch League has been waived for the Uprising due to the current situation with the Covid-19 pandemic.
On the breaking news, Jay “Sinatraa” Won, the star flex DPS player of San Francisco Shock, recently left Overwatch League in order to pursue a career in Valorant. He stated that the long DPS queue time in 2-2-2 role lock was the biggest obstacle for him to continue playing Overwatch. Sinatraa won the 2019 T-Mobile OWL Award and Overwatch League season 2 with the Shock, and also won the Overwatch World Cup 2019 and the MVP for the event with the U.S.A team. His departure is a surprise to a lot of people since he is a current “star” player for a championship team and earns one of the highest salaries in the League; meanwhile, Valorant only began the open beta recently and has not announced any competitive scene yet. Since Valorant came out, many notable Overwatch players have moved to the new game, including Dafran, Taimou, TviQ, HyP, Gods, Kyb, and Wanted.
