GTX 980 TI vs GTX 1080 TI vs Volta

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade from my gtx 980 TI to a gtx 1080 TI or wait for the Volta Cards to be released. I'm an avid gamer and am looking for advice on this subject that has been haunting me for months.

Here is my current build. I still need to update it in my profile.

OS: Windows 10 Pro
Core: Intel Core i7-6700K 8M Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80662I76700K
Motherboard: MSI Z170A Gaming 7
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 980TI (MSI Version 6gb)
PSU: CORSAIR 850 watt power supply
RAM: 2x8gb CORSAIR Dominator
Storage: 500 GB SATA III SSD (6tb external Hard Drives, 1 4tb, 2 1tb)
Audio: Logitech G930 Headset/ASUS VN247-C
Monitor: ASUS 24" LCD
Case: Corsair Graphite Series 760T Full Tower Windowed Case - Black
Mouse: Razor
Keyboard: Blackwidow

How much more power does the 1080 TI provide over the 980 TI?
Is it worth upgrading if Volta may be coming, will Volta drop the 1080 TI like it's nothing?

Any help would be appreciated.

I would wait until you start seeing games you cant play on high/ultra.  I run an GTX 980TI and do a ton of sim racing in VR maxxed out with it also showing on 55in screen (so 1 card doing maxxed 1080 on basically 3 screens) and not a stutter to be noticed.

If its working, dont change it IMO

I dont know if this still relevant or not but if you arent running 4k there is really no reason for a 1080ti unless you just want to future proof for the next 4 years, personally i have 2 and i LOVE them but neither is being used to its fullest unless im playing on 4k and lets be honest, there isnt many games that support that or do it right. BUT like i said, if you want to future proof, go for it, hell one 1080 will future proof you for a while :P
