Rainbow Six: Siege Release Date Announced.

Recommended Posts

Rainbow Six, a game franchise involving a counter-terrorism operation team, has had a successor announced. Rainbow Six: Siege has been given a release date of October 13 2015.

Shortly after the disappointment that Ubisoft's announcement on the cancellation of "Rainbow Six: Patriots" (supposedly due to early critiques) caused among dedicated Rainbow Six fans like myself, another (not so very different) Rainbow Six game was revealed: Rainbow Six: Siege. Now, while uncertainty about the release of its other highly anticipated blockbuster "The Division" remains, Ubisoft has announced the release date of this 5v5 Counter-Strike-esque tactical FPS: it will be coming our way on PC, XBone and PS4 on October 13th! If you pre-order now, you will be able to get into the game even sooner, because you'll get guaranteed access to the closed beta, which should start very soon.

We've already gotten to see some game play teasers, and several prominent YouTubers and Twitch Streamers have already had their hands on the closed ("press") alpha over the past 2 months. Overall, their first impressions have been very positive.

The tactical game play that requires a lot of planning and communication between the individual teammates raises the question though, whether a game like this could possibly also develop a large competitive scene like CS:GO. It seems the game is pretty balanced, as (unlike the cs_ maps in Counter Strike) the "camping" hostage-takers don't seem to be at a huge advantage over the counter-terrorists, and the game offers plenty of options to change the odds where needed. However, the "feel and looks", or "mechanics" if you will, of the game (in its current state) make me fear it's competitive scene will remain more at the level of games like Call of Duty, unable to step out of the shadows of the established competitive gaming giants (just like Ghost Recon, back in the days), but who knows...?

We hope to see more of this promising upcoming gadget-filled breach-&-clear FPS very soon and will keep you posted when the closed beta opens up!
