    Counter-Strike 2 - Just Announced!

We recently posted something on our Socials about the new banners that Counter-Strike posted on their Social Media and wondering what that might mean for the future of Counter-Strike!  Well we have our answer and it's a HUGE one - Valve just released an update to Counter-Strike.net that Counter-Strike 2 is coming Summer 2023 as a FREE upgrade to CS:GO.

Counter-Strike has consistently been one of the most popular first-person shooter games, and fans are eagerly waiting for the next iteration of the game. And that time has finally come! Valve has provided us the details on the upcoming Counter-Strike 2, and it's set to revolutionize the game. In this blog post, we'll look at the new features and changes coming to Counter-Strike 2.

One of the major changes in Counter-Strike 2 is the dynamic volumetric smoke grenades that react to lighting, gunfire, and explosions. Smoke can now interact with other gameplay events, creating new opportunities, and bullets and HE grenades can push smoke to briefly clear sightlines or expand occlusion. The smoke now seeps out of opened doorways and broken windows, goes down and up stairs, and expands in long corridors and combines with other smokes.

Counter-Strike 2's sub-tick update architecture means that tick rate no longer matters for moving, shooting, or throwing. Previously, the server only evaluated the world in discrete time intervals (called ticks), but now servers know the exact instant that motion starts, a shot is fired, or a ‘nade is thrown. As a result, regardless of tick rate, your moving and shooting will be equally responsive, and your grenades will always land the same way.

Maps in Counter-Strike 2 are cleaner, brighter, and better, with upgrades to overhauls. The overhauled maps have been fully rebuilt from the ground up, leveraging all of the new Source 2 tools and rendering features. Upgrade maps use new Source 2 lighting, including a physically based rendering system that produces realistic materials, lighting, and reflections. Classic maps with solid foundations that players can use to evaluate gameplay changes from CS:GO to Counter-Strike 2 are Touchstone Maps.

In Counter-Strike 2, players can bring their entire CS:GO inventory with them. Not only will you keep every item you’ve collected over the years, but they’ll all benefit from Source 2 lighting and materials. All of the visual effects have been updated in Counter-Strike 2, and there's an all-new look and behavior for water, explosions, fire, smoke, muzzle flashes, bullet tracers, impact effects, and more.

Counter-Strike 2 sounds have been reworked to better reflect the physical environment, be more distinct, and express more game state. They have also been rebalanced for a more comfortable listening experience. The UI in Counter-Strike 2 has gotten a complete overhaul, including fresh visual effects throughout the HUD, which not only look nice but also communicate important game state.

In conclusion, Counter-Strike 2 is set to be a game-changer for the first-person shooter genre. The dynamic volumetric smoke grenades, sub-tick update architecture, cleaner and better maps, and updated visuals and audio all make for an exciting gameplay experience. There's still much more to come, and fans are eagerly waiting for Valve to reveal all the details of Counter-Strike 2.

What are all of your thoughts about this HUGE update from Valve?
